回归 or Return
"Hui Gui loosely translates to the notion of returning home, encapsulating the complex emotions felt by those born overseas who seek a connection to their roots. This exhibition explores the esoteric yearning for cultural identity, community, and an intimate relationship with the environment.
In this group show, we present a collection of work by three Australian artists, Caitlin Reilly, Pearl Reilly - Murray and Zelimir Harasty who, while diverse in their artistic practic-es, share a profound emotional bond with China. Over the course of a few weeks, the artists immersed themselves in the rich tapestry of Chinese culture in particular Foshan Lu-ohang, capturing the beauty of their surroundings and the warmth of its people.
Through their distinct voices, these artists translate their experiences into visual narratives using a variety of mediums, including paint and locally sourced materials such as bamboo. Each piece is a testament to their admiration for both the aesthetic and the per-sonal, reflecting the blend of cultural influences that inform their work.
"Hui Gui - Return" invites viewers to engage with the artists' stories of love, longing, and discovery. It is a celebration of the journey to understand one's heritage and the universal quest for belonging in a world that often feels fragmented. We welcome you to explore the intersections of art and identity that resonate within this exhibition.
